For the adventure seeking, trailblazing, bikepacking enthusiasts, the Rocky Mountain Sherpa is, undoubtedly, the perfect companion. Equipped to endure various terrains and comfortably carry your gear, the Sherpa debuted at Sea Otter 2014 sporting a gold Tibetan Snow Lion paint scheme.
Using the proven Element carbon front triangle for the front end, Rocky Mountain further designed the Sherpa’s rear end to be wider to accommodate its 27.5+ size WTB Trailblazer tires. Pairing the 27.5-inch rim with a wider 2.8 tire provides the Sherpa with low rolling resistance, comparable to a 29er, while still reaping the benefits of a higher-volume tire. The increased stability of these tires gives riders the confidence they need to rip corners when out in the backcountry.
The Sherpa comes stock with a combination of Shimano SLX and XT components and a Race Face crank, bottom bracket, stem, and handlebars. In order to withstand additional gear weight, the front suspension is geared with 120mm of travel matched with its 95mm of travel in the rear. Rocky Mountain and Manitou worked together to develop a suspension that was supple and responsive. The final decision was to put the Magnum Fork on the Sherpa because the wide stance allows for better tire clearance. Combined with a Manitou McLeoud shock, a fully loaded rider can enjoy a perfectly balanced suspension system.
